Branches that competed in the Games were revised several times from administration. Here are some sports "weird" which is now no longer found in modern Olympics:
1. Hold your breath in the water
Although the sport became part of the program of water sports in St Louis Olympic Games in 1904, the sport seems to have more in common with the children's game than an Olympic sport.
In this sport, the athlete is required to dive into the pool or beach without moving the base of their feet. Champion is determined by who has the most long under the water surface. Is the gold medal winner U.S. athlete William Dickey, though, it should be noted, only American competing in the event.
2. Live pigeon shooting
Shooting has long been a staple in the Olympic branch since the first modern Olympics were done in 1896. At the 1900 Olympics in Paris, one of the branches that are contested are shooting live pigeons. The birds are released when the athlete is aiming for a moving target. More than 300 birds were killed in the event.
3. Tug of war
Shown for the first time at the Paris Olympics in 1900, the tug of war diperlombakan routine until the 1920 Antwerp Olympics. Official rules stipulate that a team of eight people who have to pull their opponents to six feet (about 1.8 meters) to win. If the two sides fail to do so, the judge gave an extra five minutes to go and then stated that the team has made progress as winners. England team have always come out as winners.
4. Climbing rope
Climbing rope is actually an official event in the earliest modern Olympics in Athens, 1896. The most impressive victories in the history of the event is in the Los Angeles Olympics in 1932 when U.S. gymnast George Eyser, won gold despite having a wooden leg.
5. Croquet
Like a golf game, but the ball had entered the goal. This sport first appeared in the 1900 Paris Olympics. Perhaps because only the French who send representatives or just a bit of a watch, the game is removed with the official reason: "almost no pretensions to athletic."
6. Duel pistols
Dueling pistols made its debut appearance in the 1906 Athens Olympics. Confusing because, although his name duel, but no actual duel. Participants only shoot objects from a distance of 20 or 30 meters. This may sound strange, but a poll conducted before the Sydney Olympics in 2000 found that 32 percent want to see this sport was revived in the Summer Olympics.
7. Long jump horse
If the long jump event of athletic prowess has been tested around the world, Paris 1900 Olympic horse competes in this event. The winner, Constant van Langendonck who boarded horses Extra Dry, noted 6.10 meter jump so far.
